I love being able to take my crafts with me when I travel. Knitting is easy enough but a spinning wheel can seem daunting. I am currently spending time with my family in Windy Hill Myrtle Beach so of course Mom and I had her pollywog and decided we needed some “ spinning wheel glamour shots” I have pictures of our pollywog at this particular location at the beach dating back almost 10 years! Things to consider about the SpinOlution Pollywog according to me.
I have never seen a wheel ( even other Spinolution’s ) that I love the simple design and function of more.
The 4 oz bobbins are small, they are that way on purpose for very fast smooth spinning for fine yarn. If Bulky Yarn is your dream you can spin it easily on the pollywog but in smaller skeins.
The 12 oz upgrade is a really really fantastic option , However it is basically getting a second small wheel. I love that I can use the 4oz bobbins on the 12 oz flyer and then switch to the 12 oz bobbin really easily for plying or larger amounts of bulky.
There is an accelerator option and unless you just want to be the queen of all the gears I don’t think it’s really needed. The wheel by its self spins fine yarn like a dream. Save your money for the 12 oz upgrade if you ask me.
No the toe treadles don’t hurt. At least not to me. This wheel is meant to basically treadle its self and should take little to no pushing effort. The only way I’d see this being different is is you were really cranking the tension up to the point that it could hardly spin.
Speaking of tension you can use a small piece of leather instead of felt if you want to spin thicker yarns vs thin on a Polly for more uptake. This is not official company recommendation but I’ve heard of people being happy with this option.
